Meurgey-Croses' Pouilly-Fuissé Vieilles Vignes comes from five parcels across Pouilly-Fuissé: two higher, cooler sites with thinner, limestone-rich soils lending finesse and lift, and three lower parcels on heavier soils that bring depth and generosity. The vines average an impressive 75 years of age. The wine is aged 100% in oak, with 10% new.
The nose is immediately inviting, showing baked apples, cereal crops and lemon sherbet, layered with hints of nougat and salted caramel. On the palate it’s generous and textural, with a rich, waxy mouthfeel, yet there’s a firm, disciplined line of acidity that keeps the oiliness in check and carries the flavours long and clean.
This is superb with roast chicken and morels, seared scallops with a beurre noisette, or richer vegetarian dishes such as mushroom risotto or squash gratin.
