La Giaretta Cor Di Vin 95 Rosso 2019 is unapologetically big, bold and hedonistic, a full-throttle Veneto red built for those who like their wines with serious swagger.
It bursts from the glass with waves of black cherry, cassis and plum, followed by tobacco, sweet spice and an irresistible Amarone-esque hint of cola. The palate is dense and velvety, packed with dark fruit and framed by silky tannins, but lifted by enough freshness to keep it charging through a long, warming finish. A proper showstopper. Pair it with braised short ribs, game, or a slab of aged Parmigiano.
Made using dried grapes in the appassimento tradition, the fruit is left to shrivel and concentrate before fermentation, amplifying richness, sugar and flavour intensity. The wine then spends around 15 months in small French oak barrels, sourced from top forests, layering in spice, polish and structure.

The 2019 growing season in Veneto was shaped by a warm, dry summer that built concentration steadily rather than through drama — no single catastrophic event, but a consistent heat that pushed ripeness without tipping into overripeness in most sites. Growers who managed canopy and yields carefully were rewarded; those who didn't found themselves with grapes that had raced ahead. Harvest conditions were largely favourable, and the resulting wines have real stuffing to them.
Across the board, 2019 produced wines with ripe, generous fruit and good structural depth. Amarone and Ripasso lovers will find bottles with the kind of fruit density that rewards patience — we'd give the bigger Amarones until 2030 and beyond, but the Soaves and lighter Valpolicella Classicos are drinking very well right now, showing that freshness the region can manage when summers don't go too far. A strong, reliable vintage rather than a legendary one — which sometimes makes it easier to find genuinely good bottles at sensible prices.
