The 2017 Mount Edelstone from Henschke shows layered aromas of blackberry and blackcurrant, with notes of sage, bay leaf, black pepper and subtle cedar. The palate is concentrated yet finely balanced, combining dark fruit depth with savoury, earthy nuances, fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity.
This Shiraz sings with hearty, flavour-forward dishes. Try it with grilled or roasted red meats - such as pepper-crusted ribeye or lamb shoulder - where its dark fruit and spice complement the char and fat. It also pairs beautifully with slow-braised beef brisket or rich mushroom-based dishes that echo the wine’s earthy complexity.
Henschke Mount Edelstone Shiraz 2017 is a profound single-vineyard wine from Eden Valley with remarkable historical pedigree. The Mount Edelstone vineyard was planted in 1912 by Ronald Angas, a descendant of George Fife Angas, who played a key role in the formation of South Australia. Unusually for its era, the vineyard was planted entirely to Shiraz, and those dry-grown, centenarian vines continue to deliver fruit of exceptional intensity and character.
