Henschke’s Louis Semillon 2018 shows the estate’s hallmark balance of purity and texture. Aromas of citrus zest, meadow flowers and cut grass lead into a poised palate of lemon rind and white stone fruit, underpinned by gentle creaminess and bright, cleansing acidity. It’s elegant rather than showy, with a long, fresh finish.
For food pairing, the wine’s fresh acidity and citrus-driven profile make it a superb match for seafood: oysters or grilled scallops with a squeeze of lemon, crab with a light herb butter, or a simple ceviche. It also complements delicate poultry dishes (such as lemon-herb roast chicken) and herb-infused goat cheese salads, where its bright acidity and clean finish lift the flavours.

Vintage report
Eden Valley in 2018 had a growing season that demanded patience and nerve in equal measure. A cool, wet spring pushed the vines hard and delayed budburst, but the region's altitude — sitting higher and cooler than its McLaren Vale and Barossa floor neighbours — proved its usual advantage once summer arrived. Warm, dry conditions through the ripening period allowed growers who held their nerve to bring in fruit with genuine concentration without losing the acidity that makes Eden Valley worth talking about in the first place.
The results are particularly good for Riesling, which found a sweet spot between taut, citrus-driven intensity and a little more mid-palate weight than the leaner years tend to offer. Shiraz, too, came in well — structured and darker-fruited, with the kind of cool-climate restraint that separates Eden Valley from the richer stuff down the hill. Most Rieslings are drinking well now and will continue to reward cellaring until the late 2020s; the better Shirazes still have room to open further.
