Domaine Horgelus' 2023 Rouge de Gala is a thunderous meeting of four great grapes varieties: Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Tannat - the latter a local grape variety that makes elegant and powerful reds. The Merlot gives sweet and savoury notes while the Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon give depth and power to this well balanced wine, that drinks well above its price tag.
The Rouge de Gala has a fabulous concentration with with aromas of blackcurrant, liquorice and spices. On the palate it has soft, ripe tannins to support the dark fruit flavours. Smooth and deeply flavoured, this red can be drunk with a host of different styles of food but it's the ideal accompaniment to grilled or roast meats, and soft cheeses.
