Located in the northern Haut-Médoc near the borders of Saint-Estèphe and Pauillac, Château Cissac is a historic Bordeaux property with roots dating back centuries. The present château, an elegant 18th-century chartreuse, stands on the site of what is believed to have been a Roman villa. The estate took its modern form in 1895 when Jacques Mondon, a lawyer from Pauillac, consolidated several local vineyards under the Château Cissac name. Since 1940 it has been owned by the Vialard family, who continue to run the property today.

The Château Cissac vines grow on a plateau with soil composed of gravel deposits from the Garonne River from the Gunz-Mindel period. It sits at an altitude of 27.5 m above sea level, equivalent to the highest points of the neighbouring appellations of St-Estèphe and Pauillac. The vines have an average age of 40 years. Today the estate covers around 60 hectares, planted mainly to Cabernet Sauvignon alongside Merlot and Petit Verdot, producing classic, structured Haut-Médoc wines.
