Terra De Asorei, Albariño, 2022

This is a first class Albarino. A beautiful straw and lemon yellow coloured wine with herbal aromas of bay leaf, balsam and dill, Terra De Asorei Albarino boasts citrus notes of lemon and grapefruit, plus a peachy, orchard character. It is fresh yet rich on the palate, thanks to six months ageing on the lees and its precise acidity. The ripe fruit flavours on the palate reflect the nose and give a suggestion of sweetness before leading into a complex, silky finish.

There are six families who combine to make this wine which originates from the Salnes Valley on the left bank of the Arousa River in Galicia, the heart of the classic Albarino area. Between them, the families own around 60 hectares of vines that ripen perfectly in the Atlantic influenced climate where temperatures are mild and rainfall is sufficient to feed the vines.

At Terra De Asorei they work the vineyards like a sculptor works stone, using experience, science, passion and humanity to transform art into wine. Unlike many other wineries, all of the grapes used are grown by the co-operative's members. This permits exhaustive quality control throughout the entire winemaking process; from the budding of the first grapes to the moment wine leaves the winery bearing the Terra De Asorei label.

This skilfully crafted wine is named after Francisco Asorei, a famous Galician sculptor born in Cambados. He is considered to be one of the most important figures of the revitalisation of Galician and Spanish sculpture in the twentieth century.

All too often with the popularity of Albarino, growers choose to allow the vine to produce large quantities of grapes in order to make more wine. This in turn leads to dilute wines that lack flavour. None of that here. The motto of the winery is "Great quality, great value" and both are achieved in this wine. The balance between freshness, fruit and depth of flavour is perfect and the length of flavour on the palate is testimony to quality they have achieved.
