Comtes de Champagne is the star of the show: made only in outstanding vintages, using exclusively the first pressings, and aged for 10 years deep underground before it ever sees the light of day. Bottled in its distinctive antique-style shape, it remains one of Champagne’s most iconic Blanc de Blancs. Only the top grapes made the cut, so there’s far less than in 2013 - but what’s here is truly exceptional.
Taittinger, founded back in 1734, was taken over by Pierre Taittinger in 1931 after he served in WWI, and unlike many big houses, it’s still in family hands today, run by Pierre’s great-grandchildren, Vitalie and Clovis. The wines age in ancient chalk cellars beneath Reims — former Benedictine monk caves dating to the 4th century - with naturally cool, stable conditions that are perfect for long, slow maturation.
