Anna Maria Abbona Langhe Barbera “Cadò” 2019 is a beautifully balanced red from Piedmont’s Langhe DOC, made primarily from Barbera with a touch of Dolcetto that softens the edges and adds mid-palate appeal. It is vinified traditionally and aged around 18–24 months in barrels, resulting in a wine with a bright ruby colour, vivid fruit and a lively acid structure that’s characteristic of quality Barbera. The aromas include ripe cherry and plum with gentle spice notes, while the palate shows fresh red and dark fruit flavours framed by medium tannins and a persistent finish.

The blend’s acidity and fruit intensity make it both approachable on its own and wonderfully food-friendly. In Piedmont it’s often paired with the region’s hearty cuisine - for example tajarin pasta with rich ragù or slow-braised meats - where the wine’s brightness cuts through richness and complements savoury depth.

Enjoy this Barbera with pasta al ragù, beef-braised dishes, grilled sausages or lamb tagine; it also goes beautifully with aged cheeses and tomato-based dishes where the wine’s acidity brings out fresh flavours on the plate.

OUR GROWERS

Anna Maria Abbona

Anna Maria Abbona is a remarkable estate located in the picturesque hills near Dogliani. Anna Maria herself is a delightful lady whose charm and passion is very much reflected in her wines.

The estate carries a rich history that stretches back to 1936, when her grandfather, Angelo, planted the first vineyard known as Maioli. Anna Maria and her husband took over the estate in 1989. While their hearts lie with the Dolcetto grape that earned the region DOCG status, their portfolio showcases other eminent Langhe grape varieties. Their portfolio encompasses a range of exceptional wines, each crafted exclusively from 100% single-varietal grapes. White limestone soils and vineyard altitudes above 500 meters impart freshness and drinkability to their wines.
