Indaba, Jam Jar Sweet Shiraz, 2021
Indaba, Jam Jar Sweet Shiraz, 2021
- Red Still
- 75cl
Jam Jar Sweet Shiraz by Indaba comes from grapes grown mainly in vineyards surrounding Paarl, a region with a Rhône-like climate that is ideal for Shiraz cultivation. This fresh, fruity, semi-sweet wine displays aromas and flavours of ripe blueberries, blackberries and raspberries with dark chocolate undertones. Refreshing and approachable with the perfect balance between sweetness and acidity. Best served slightly chilled.
The 2019 harvest season kicked off a little later than normal. There was a delayed start to winter with good rainfall following a drier than normal post-harvest period in autumn. Despite the good rainfall, warmer than normal temperatures— especially a number of hot days in July— initially led to low cold unit accumulation which in turn contributed to early and uneven bud break in some vineyards. The grapes were small with dense bunches delivering sweet and concentrated juice.
The Jam Jar Sweet Shiraz grapes were handpicked and de-stemmed. They were cold macerated for two days before undergoing natural fermentation in stainless steel tanks, using only indigenous yeasts. It was aged on its lees, with 20% of the wine aged in a combination of French and American oak for two months.
