The 2020 Gevery Vieilles Vignes from Domaine Henri Magnien greets you with dark cherry and blackberry aromas, underpinned by subtle herbal and iron-tinged notes; classic Gevrey-Chambertin character. The palate is medium- to full-bodied with a velvety texture, round fruit, powdery tannins and a lively acidity that keeps things balanced and fresh.
A polished, generous wine that’s approachable now, it still has enough structure to age gracefully. Think roast lamb, wild-mushroom dishes, or a rich beef stew to match its depth and character.
The wine comes from a mix of eight parcels of old vines (40–100 years old), many planted with the traditional “Pinot Magnien” clone, giving wines with depth, structure and a distinct sense of place. 2020 in Burgundy was marked by warm, dry conditions that produced small berries with concentrated flavours — and in this case resulted in a generous, richly fruited Pinot Noir that still retains vibrancy and definition.
