Based in the Southern Valleys in Marlborough, Fromm was established in the 90s, undergoing organic conversion in 2005, and has rapidly developed a cult reputation for its range of single vineyard reds & whites.
Winemaking is Burgundian, with little more than 3,000 cases produced annually. The vineyards are farmed by hand, grapes hand-picked, whilst in the winery they use wild yeasts, aging in Burgundian oak barrels, bottling with no fining or filtration and minimal sulphur. The resultant wines combine all the elegance, structure and suaveness of Burgundy yet with that signature plushness of NZ fruit, making them very attractive indeed.

Vintage report
The 2023 vintage in Marlborough was shaped by a growing season that kept winemakers on their toes. A wet spring delayed flowering and reduced yields across the region, particularly for Sauvignon Blanc, while a warm, dry summer allowed for excellent ripening conditions. Harvest began earlier than usual, with many producers picking their Sauvignon Blanc in March under ideal conditions—clear skies and cool nights that preserved the variety's trademark freshness and aromatic intensity.
What emerged from the cellars is a vintage of real character and focus. The lower yields concentrated flavours beautifully, producing Sauvignon Blancs with more weight and texture than we've seen in recent years, whilst maintaining that laser-sharp acidity Marlborough does so well. Pinot Noir fared particularly well, benefiting from the extended hang time and producing wines with genuine depth and silky tannins. These wines are drinking brilliantly now—the Sauvignon Blancs are at their peak expression, whilst the Pinot Noirs will reward cellaring for another three to five years.
