Coming from the celebrated Côte de Brouilly region in Beaujolais, this single-vineyard wine is planted on the classic pink-granite soils at the foot of the chapel of La Madone in the village of Fleurie.
Made from 100 % Gamay, the 2023 “La Madone” opens with a floral and fruity bouquet - iris and carnation, bright strawberries and raspberries, with just a hint of nutmeg and the fine mineral edge characteristic of the terroir. On the palate it’s medium-bodied, smooth yet structured, with juicy red fruit, delicate tannins and a long, fragrant finish.
This wine is a versatile companion: try it alongside charcuterie, gently grilled poultry or pork, or a soft-rind cheese. For something heartier, roasted chicken with herbs or a light beef dish will bring out its fruit, finesse and freshness.
Producer/négociant Maison Albert Bichot was founded in Beaune in 1831 and remains family-owned, with Albéric Bichot currently at the helm. Despite being a significant player in Burgundy (it’s the leading buyer at the celebrated Hospices de Beaune auction), Maison AB leads the way in sustainability and manages to maintain the ethos and accessibility of a much smaller artisanal grower.
