Produced from 100% organically grown Grillo, LaMura Grillo Sicilia Biologico 2023 is a bright, refreshing white that captures the sunny character of Sicily's native grape. Sourced from certified organic vineyards and fermented in stainless steel to preserve its freshness, the wine is vibrant, expressive and unmistakably Mediterranean.

The 2023 vintage offers lifted aromas of lemon zest, white peach and citrus blossom, alongside subtle hints of tropical fruit and Mediterranean herbs. The palate is crisp and lively, with flavours of ripe pear, pineapple and grapefruit balanced by refreshing acidity and a gentle mineral note that carries through to a clean, saline finish. Bright, approachable and full of character, it's a wine that's as enjoyable on its own as it is at the table.

A natural partner for grilled fish, seafood pasta, fresh salads or goat's cheese, this is a brilliant easy-drinking Sicilian white.

Vintage report

Sicily in 2023 was shaped by an early, warm spring that accelerated the growing cycle, followed by a summer that brought intense heat and drought across much of the island. Growers who managed water stress carefully — through canopy management, older vine reserves, and early picking decisions — came out well. Those who didn't found concentration tipping into coarseness. The harvest came in ahead of the historical average, and the wines it produced are generous and sun-drenched without being heavy: ripe tannins on the reds, good grip on the whites.

Nero d'Avola performed particularly well, delivering wines with real fruit depth and structure that doesn't feel forced. Nerello Mascalese on Etna, where altitude tempered the heat, produced precise, mineral-driven reds with the kind of freshness that the variety needs to be interesting. Grillo and Carricante among the whites are vivid and textured. Most reds will drink well now until 2028 or so, with the better Etna bottlings comfortably holding until 2030 and beyond.

OUR GROWERS

LaMura

LaMura is one of Sicily's pioneers of certified organic winemaking, producing wines that reflect the island's warm Mediterranean climate and rich winemaking heritage. The vineyards are planted on clay-limestone soils in western Sicily, where plentiful sunshine, cooling sea breezes and low rainfall provide ideal conditions for growing healthy grapes with minimal intervention. The winery focuses on both indigenous varieties, such as Grillo and Nero d'Avola, alongside a handful of international grapes, all farmed organically.
