For anyone who enjoys mature wine, the Durand is one of those tools that quickly becomes indispensable. Designed specifically for older bottles, it combines a traditional corkscrew with an Ah-So two-pronged extractor, making it possible to remove even fragile, decades-old corks cleanly and intact.
It takes a little practice, but the principle is simple: the worm provides stability while the two prongs support the cork from either side, helping prevent it from crumbling or breaking. If you regularly open mature Bordeaux, Burgundy, Barolo or Vintage Port, the Durand is a very worthwhile addition to the wine kit – and one that many professionals wouldn't be without.
