Donnachiara Taurasi 2019 is a powerful but polished take on Aglianico from the hills of Irpinia. The warm vintage brings plenty of depth, while the altitude keeps everything fresh and balanced.

Expect ripe black cherry and plum, with hints of liquorice, dried herbs and a touch of smoky spice. It’s full-bodied with firm, grippy tannins, but there’s good energy running through it and a long, savoury finish. Give it a decant now, or tuck it away for a few years.

It’s spot on with slow-cooked beef, lamb shoulder, game, or a wedge of well-aged hard cheese.
