A stunning chewy red made from Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. As soon as we tasted this we new it would be a winner yet the Loire Valley is not always the first place you think of when you want a bold and chunky red. The colour is rich and intense with violet notes at the edge showing the youth. The nose is explosive and simply leaps from the glass with floral aromas of irises, roses and violets rapidly followed by red and black fruits. Right at the end there are hints of liquorice. On the palate it is bold, full bodied and round whilst being supple and with ripe, unobtrusive tannins. The finish can seem slightly rustic but put it with some hearty red meat dishes or spicy foods and it's a real joy as a companion.
Please note : As this wine is unfined and unfiltered there is a sediment in the bottle so decanting is recommended.
Never underestimate this incredible red wine! It's no Ch√¢teau Lafite but it certainly packs a punch and offers incredible value. If you're serving it at home don't have it too warm so you can retain the freshness of the fruit and the acidity. If you have a decanter pop it in for an hour before serving. If not, just pour it into a jug then pop it back in the bottle and hour before drinking.
Quite simply, it's brilliant! Whether you want a fine dining experience or a quick, Monday night dinner, this will hit the spot every time. If it needs a red, this is the fellow!

The 2018 Loire enjoyed one of those rare seasons that had vignerons grinning from Muscadet to Sancerre. A warm, dry summer provided textbook ripening conditions after a challenging start, with late spring frosts causing some anxiety in April. Once the vines settled into the growing season, consistent sunshine and crucially timed August rains kept the grapes healthy without diluting flavours, leading to an early harvest that began in late August for many domaines.
What emerged were wines with impressive concentration and freshness intact — no mean feat in such a warm year. Sauvignon Blanc from Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé shows particular poise, with ripe citrus intensity balanced by that mineral backbone we love, while Chenin Blanc delivered both dry wines with excellent ageing potential and sweet Coteaux du Layon with gorgeous fruit-acid harmony. The reds surprised many: Chinon and Bourgueil produced Cabernet Francs with unusual depth and silky tannins. Most 2018 Loires are drinking superbly now, though the finest Sancerres and dry Chenins will reward patience until 2028.
