The Dom Pérignon 2013 perfectly captures the house’s signature harmony of richness and precision. Bright citrus, green apple, and pear lead the nose, joined by hints of stone fruit, almond, and a delicate smoky nuance. On the palate, it’s vibrant and focused, with crisp acidity underpinning layers of fruit and a long, finely mineral finish.
James Suckling has scored the 2013 with a stonking 98 points that beats its stunning predecessor in 2012 and joins the incredible 2008 vintage on the leaderboard. In fact, the only Dom Pérignon Blanc to be granted a higher score (by just one point) are the 1990 and 1996 Oenetheque.
2013 was actually the sunniest summer on record in Champagne, which is quite remarkable! It followed a damp spring, meaning the vines had enough water to see them through and picking was two weeks later than usual, with grapes brought in in fine health. The summer heat was not without its victims however and the harvest was smaller than initially all had expected – the same size as 2012, in fact.
