La Croix de Beaucaillou 2016 is the seriously classy second wine from the legendary Château Ducru-Beaucaillou in Saint-Julien—and in this vintage, it’s more than just a little sibling.

Rich, structured, and polished, it delivers ripe blackcurrant, dark cherry, and plum fruit with layers of cedar, spice, and a hint of graphite. There’s real depth and poise here, supported by silky tannins and fresh acidity that give it both immediate appeal and great ageing potential.

"Pristine, attractive fruit with perfume and freshness. Dark-berry and plum notes, as well as cassis and brambleberries, define the character of both nose and palate. The tannins are saturated in ripe dark berries and plums and deliver a superbly fresh, shimmering, dark-fruited finish. Wow-factor is strong here in 2016. Try this from 2024."

OUR GROWERS

Château Ducru-Beaucaillou

Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is named after the beautiful, large stones that characterise its unique Garonne or Günz gravel soil. The "Ducru" part of the name was added in 1795, when the property was bought by Bertrand Ducru. This exceptional terroir translates into fine, elegant wines with a long finish, the epitome of Saint-Julien. Perched on an exceptional site with incomparable views over the Gironde estuary, in the centre of a hundred-year-old park, Ducru-Beaucaillou is a majestic, Victorian-style château, which has, over time, become one of the great symbols of the Médoc. Unusually for Bordeaux, it is built directly above the barrel cellars, enveloping its owners - the Borie family - who have lived here for over sixty years, in the sumptuous aromas of their wine.
