Casal da Coelheira's Terraços do Tejo White is an excellent introduction to Portugal's Tejo region, offering bright, uncomplicated drinking with plenty of character. Produced from estate-grown Fernão Pires, it captures the freshness of the region's sandy soils and warm climate, balancing ripe fruit with a crisp, mineral edge.
Expect aromas of citrus, ripe peach and apricot, lifted by delicate floral notes. The palate is lively and refreshing, with juicy stone fruit, a touch of minerality and a zesty finish that keeps everything bright and balanced. It's an easy-going white that's equally at home as an aperitif or alongside grilled fish, seafood and fresh salads.

The 2024 growing season in Alentejo brought the kind of heat the region knows how to handle, but with enough variation to keep growers on their toes. A relatively mild spring gave vines a decent start, though summer arrived with force — sustained high temperatures that tested water management and required careful canopy work to protect fruit from stress. Producers who irrigated judiciously and picked at the right moment came out well ahead of those who pushed for extra hang time.
What landed in the cellar is promising rather than spectacular — generous, ripe fruit in the reds, with Aragonês and Trincadeira showing good concentration and the kind of structural grip that suggests these wines will reward patience. Whites from Antão Vaz held freshness better than you might expect given the summer heat. We'd say most reds are enjoyable now with a couple of hours' air but will reward sitting on until 2027 or 2028, with the best examples likely hitting their stride around then.
