Domaine Ballot-Millot has become one of the quiet stars of Meursault, known for wines that are precise, energetic and beautifully expressive of place. The domaine has a long family history dating back to the 17th century, but it’s under Charles Ballot that things have really sharpened; lower yields, careful farming and a winemaking approach that favours purity over power.
Their Bourgogne Chardonnay is a brilliant introduction to the house style. The 2020 vintage was warm and generous across Burgundy, producing ripe fruit, concentration and great approachability early on, while still retaining enough tension to keep everything fresh. It’s a vintage that should charm both seasoned Burgundy lovers and newcomers alike.
In the glass, this wine offers bright citrus, green apple and white peach, with hints of toasted hazelnut and a subtle creamy edge from well-judged oak. The palate is clean and focused: fresh acidity frames the ripe fruit beautifully, giving balance and a refreshing lift on the finish.
This is polished, elegant everyday Burgundy; serious enough to impress, but easy enough to pour without occasion. Enjoy it with roast chicken, seared scallops, or a simple cheese and charcuterie spread.
