El Maestro Sierra is one of the most traditional bodegas in Jerez.

Founded in 1830 by master cooler Jose Antonio Sierra, he had longed to be in the Sherry trade and found the going tough as the industry as dominated by the aristocratic families. Over the years, this humble worker grew his business to become one of the most respected almacenistas and is still run by his ancestors today.

Bodega El Maestro Sierra

El Maestro Sierra, the most traditional sherry maker in Jerez, boasts an impressive 180 years of winemaking expertise. The Bodega was founded by a skilled cooper named Jose Antonio Sierra over a century ago. His workshop still sits at the heart of El Maestro Sierra bodega and his carved signature adorns nearly two-hundred-year-old butts that hold the bodega’s finest centenary wines. In more recent years, the Bodega has gained international acclaim under the leadership of Doña Pilar Pla Pechovierto and her daughter Maria del Carmen Borrego Pla. Embracing the Latin saying “”Primus Inter Pares,” meaning the first among equals, Maria upholds the rich cultural heritage of Sherry and El Maestro Sierra, bottling and exporting wines that exemplify the distinct qualities of the Jerez-Xérès-Sherry D.O.
