The 2024 U Passimiento from Baglio Gibellina is a rich and expressive Sicilian red, crafted from a blend of 70% Nero d’Avola and 30% Frappato grapes.

This approachable wine pairs wonderfully with pasta dishes, grilled meats, or mild cheeses. Its rich fruit profile and balanced acidity make it a versatile choice for various cuisines.

To make the U Passimiento, Nero d’Avola grapes are left on the vines for a light withering, allowing natural dehydration to concentrate their flavours. In contrast, the Frappato grapes are harvested earlier to retain their freshness. After separate fermentations, the wines are carefully blended and matured in steel tanks, preserving their vibrant character without the influence of oak.

Baglio Gibellina

Baglio Gibellina is a Sicilian wine project focused on native grape varieties and the vineyards of western Sicily. The winery works with hillside vineyards around Salemi and Santa Ninfa, producing wines that highlight local grapes such as Nero d’Avola, Frappato and Grillo. Today the brand forms part of the portfolio of the Fantini Group.

‘Baglio’ refers to the property’s original internal courtyard, surrounded by warehouses once used for collecting and processing grapes. The vineyards lie between 300 and 600 metres above sea level on clay and volcanic soils, in a landscape of rolling vines dotted with broom and prickly pear.
