Villa Gresti (named in honour of Marchesi’s ancestor Gemma di Gresti who helped repatriate thousands of Italian prisoners of war from Russia after World War I). An impressive wine for an impressive lady, Villa Gresti is fast closing the gap on San Leonardo and based as it is on a different blend (90% Merlot) from separate vineyards is not a second wine but an alternative expression of the estate’s unique terroir. This leaves many big-name and bigger-price Pomerols in the shade.
