Famous for its Grands Vins, the Mas de Daumas Gassac has been a family owned vineyard for more than 40 years and belongs to the Guibert family. It is set in a wild and enchanting valley, close the magnificent romanesque abbey of Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert. 50 hectares of a deep, well drained soil, free from any chemical fertilisers.
Smooth, elegant, great finesse... are words that spring to mind at the first tasting. It opens on definite hints of dark chocolate, coffee, red fruit, moving on fast to a thoroughly rounded mouth which emphasises the finesse and elegance of the tannins, with a long powerful and velvety finish. The 2019 is a mouthwatering wine, full of flavour, lifted by the well balanced acidity and freshness so characteristic of the wines coming from the Daumas Gassac terroir.

Vintage report
The 2019 growing season in Languedoc was defined by heat — persistent, punishing heat that pushed ripening fast and left little margin for error. A dry summer followed a relatively mild spring, and temperatures climbed early, concentrating sugars quickly across the garrigue-covered hillsides of the Hérault, Gard, and Aude. Growers who picked at the right moment — and increasingly, the best producers here know exactly when that is — captured fruit with real definition rather than the baked, overworked character that lesser sites or slower decisions can produce. Yields were down across much of the region, but what came in was serious.
The wines that resulted are dense and sun-warmed, with Grenache and Syrah in particular showing the kind of ripe, structured fruit that rewards patience as much as it rewards a good decanter. These are not shy bottles. The better reds from Pic Saint-Loup, Faugères, and the Roussillon edges have the concentration to age, but most are already drinking well — especially with food — and we'd expect the more ambitious cuvées to keep comfortably until 2028 to 2032.
