This superb Haut Medoc has been made in hommage to all of the women who had a hand in bringing Ducru Beaucaillou to fame over the years. The 2019 vintage is mainly Merlot with good dollops of Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot with just a hint of Cabernet Franc. It has a really bright crimson colour, a bouquet of red and black fruits with cherries dominant together with some hints of spice. In the mouth it is fresh, clean and charming with ripe, silky tannins. A terrific wine at an affordable price.

Château Ducru-Beaucaillou

Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is named after the beautiful, large stones that characterise its unique Garonne or Günz gravel soil. The "Ducru" part of the name was added in 1795, when the property was bought by Bertrand Ducru. This exceptional terroir translates into fine, elegant wines with a long finish, the epitome of Saint-Julien. Perched on an exceptional site with incomparable views over the Gironde estuary, in the centre of a hundred-year-old park, Ducru-Beaucaillou is a majestic, Victorian-style château, which has, over time, become one of the great symbols of the Médoc. Unusually for Bordeaux, it is built directly above the barrel cellars, enveloping its owners - the Borie family - who have lived here for over sixty years, in the sumptuous aromas of their wine.
