When Georges Lignier inherited some vines from his father Jules in the beginning of the 20th century, he established Domaine Georges Lignier. George’s son, Bernard, joined him in 1949 and assisted in the planting of vines. The two decided to strike out on their own, breaking away from the local cooperative in order to focus on making wine under their own label. Bernard’s young son, Georges, took over from his father in 1970, establishing an integrated winemaking policy at the domain and greatly increasing the bottling capacity. Today, he continues to oversee the winemaking process and Domaine Georges Lignier successfully remains a family-owned estate.
