At Domaine de L’Arlot, the concept of terroir takes center stage. Since 2000, the estate has been dedicated to organic methods, and in 2014, they were awarded organic agriculture (“AB”) certification. Since 2003, they have also undertaken biodynamic farming methods, which now extend all of their plots.
Domaine de L’Arlot’s winemaking philosophy is to let nature take the lead. They employ spontaneous fermentation in all of their wines. For their reds, they vinify part of the whole crop when the vintage permits. As a result, the red wines can appear a little lighter in colour than those of other producers. While the stalks absorb some of the pigment during fermentation, they impart a greater complexity as well as silkier tannins.
Domaine De L’Arlot’s Nuits St George Rouge 1er Cru os des Forets St George is medium bodied, well-balanced, and generously fruited. In contrast, the Nuits Saint Georges Blanc Cuvee La Gerbotte comes from the younger Chardonnay vines in the Clos De L’Arlot vineyard, planted between 1998 and 2000. Lying further from the other vines on a limestone slab covered by thin topsoil, the micro-climate is not quite as sunny as their other plots, lending a slightly cooler quality to the wine.
