The former family seat of the Loré de la Ragotière family, the 14th-century Château and its thirty-hectare estate were bought by the Couillaud brothers in 1979. Today, Frères Couillaud manages Château De La Ragotière as well as Château de la Morinière and Domaine du Petit Château. Their “Collection Privee des Freres Couillaud” produces wines from an experimental vineyard using grape varieties not often found in the Nantais vineyards.

This soil of schist and micaschist found at Château De La Ragotière produces late-maturing and well-structured wines that age exceptionally well. The winemakers follow the principles of sustainable viticulture including the use of organic materials only, sexual confusion to fight cochyllis, natural grass, weeding under the row, and trellising and leaf removal. These practices help ensure the quality of the grapes as well as the purest expression of the terroir.
