My introduction to wine was working in a Manchester restaurant that happened to be supplied by Gerrard Seel. Recommending a wine to Gordon Ramsey and getting a good reaction made me think a career in wine might be for me. From there I spent a number of years at the country’s largest specialist wine retailer completing the WSET Level 3 and Diploma. Before joining Gerrard Seel I also worked with one of the biggest national on- trade wine suppliers.

I joined Gerrard Seel a year ago to work with some of those wines and producers that had first sparked my interest in wine and the great range of family owned and independent producers in our portfolio.

What are you enjoying at the moment?

The Château Canet Minervois Evangiles 2017, after a visit to the winery early this year and imaging I’m in the South of France. For a mid-week wine I’d go for a crisp, fresh white wine and new addition to our range; the Omissa Vinho Verde from Portugal.

My love of wine began in the late ‘90s at Oddbins, eventually becoming one of the youngest managers in the company. I then worked at some of the country’s top restaurants as a sommelier before packing my bags and travelling around the world, where I visited Grand Cru vineyards of Burgundy, scenic landscapes of Australia & New Zealand, the heights of the Andes in Chile and Argentina and even vineyards in Vietnam and Bolivia!

After managing my own stores and a further stint in independent retail, I dedicated 12 years to trade sales in the North West. I’ve always admired Gerrard Seel and when I heard of their merger with Honest Grapes, I knew it was a chance to join something special.

What are you enjoying at the moment?

The 2017 Savigny-Les-Beaune 1er Cru, Les Lavieres from Tollot- Beaut (get it while you can!) or for something delicious and easy- going, Domaine Horgelus, Côte de Gascogne, Sauvignon Blanc/ Gros Manseng.
