The wines of Château Canet are expertly crafted by owner Floris Lemstra and oenologist Nathalie Leclercq. 80% of the domaine falls under the Minervois appellation of the Languedoc-Roussillon, while the remaining vineyards are classified as Vin de Pays d’Oc. Château Canet is dedicated to sustainable winemaking practices. HVE level 3-certified, their vineyard management reflects their respect for the land, and they diligently adhere to the ecological specifications of “Terra Vitis”. They utilize innovative techniques like “Sexual Confusion” – a natural method that uses biological pheromones to deter destructive moths rather than conventional pesticides.
Syrah (Shiraz) is their principal grape variety, compromising more than half of their 45-hectare vineyards. The rest are planted with Chardonnay, Grenache, Merlot and the regional varieties Marsanne and Bourboulenc. Along with Syrah and Chardonnay, these two varietals form the basis of Château Canet’s Minervois Blanc. The Minervois rosé and red are blended entirely from Syrah and Grenache. The rosé is very pale resulting from a very short pressing to extract just the first juices. It is vinified at a low temperature to preserve its red fruit aromas. Well-structured and fruity, the Minervois red also undergoes no barrel aging, preserving the fresh black fruit notes.
